PADI Instructor Development Course (IDC)

Course Description
The PADI IDC is the core of the PADI Instructor Development training process. The goal of the program is to prepare you to function as an effective PADI Instructor by thoroughly familiarizing you with the PADI system and its entire diver training programs. You will draw upon your current skills and knowledge while learning how to conduct classroom, pool and open water teaching sessions. While successful completion of the PADI IDC will prepare you to easily pass the Instructor Examination. Our program is specifically designed to give you the basic skills and knowledge you will need to begin your career as a scuba Instructor.

The PADI IDC includes training in PADI systems, standards and procedures, Developing Knowledge development Presentations, Teaching in confined water, Conducting open water training dives and additional related topics.

PADI Open Water Scuba Instructors are qualified to conduct the entire range of PADI experience programs and PADI courses from Open Water Diver through Divemaster (except for specialties and Emergency First response, which require specific Specialty Diver Instructor and EFR Instructor ratings).

Subsequent to successful completion of the IDC, to become a PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor, the instructor candidate must successfully complete the PADI Instructor Examination (IE).
The IE is a PADI conducted examination in which the candidate is evaluated over two days in the following areas:

• Dive theory
• Academic teaching
• Confined-water (pool) teaching and skills demonstration
• Open-water teaching
• General diving skills and professionalism

The PADI IDC Course is conducted over 6/7 days and includes at least 3 open water dives.


Prerequisite Certification• PADI Divemaster or other organization’s leadership
• CPR and First Aid within 24 months of certification
• Certified Diver for at least 6 months

Minimum Age18 years old

Minimum Experience• 100 logged dives including experience in deep, night, and navigation diving, if less logged dive contact us to arrange daily dives to help you reach the prerequisites

Medical Statement signed by a physician within the last 12 months


Post Instructor Examination requirement:
• Proof of CPR/First Aid Instructor rating

     EFR instructor rating available pre or post IDC.
